What's in a name?

I have seen some very interesting blog names! Like: If only I had Super Powers, A peek inside the fishbowl and Not that you asked. It can be difficult coming up with a blog name because you want it to reflect who you are and what your blog is about. I had an extremely hard time coming up with my name. I wanted something original but also something that I could stand looking at each time I logged in.

I selected Classy and Sophisticated for a few reasons. First being that I am drawn to things that I find classy and sophisticated. It could be a well mannered, elegantly dressed (and it doesn't have to be in a ball gown to be considered elegant) and educated person or an object for my home. I tend to decorate very traditional and formal. I want to not only appear this way but I want to become a little more classy and little more sophisticated then what I am now.

The second reason for my chosen name is an inside joke between Eduardo and I. There are times when we are going to make a major purchase (sometimes this applies to minor things like clothes) and I will half jokingly say, "Make sure it is classy and sophisticated!" I certainly don't want to bring home something that I might consider to be on the "trashy" side of things. Of course, to each his own.

How did you come up with your blog name?

"Melissa's Blog"...hmmm...I obviously didn't put any thought into it. How boring.

You are making me re-think my blog name :)

For one this is great question! I think if you don't mind I might repost the same question on my blog and answer why I chose mine as well. I hope you don't mind, but it's a great idea.

I was thinking the same thing as your friend Sarah. This is a really great idea! I always wondered what had made you choose your blog name.

Hmm. The complete title of my blog is The Bluestocking Guide: Reviews by a Partial, Prejudiced, and Ignorant Reader.

Bluestocking was a derogatory name for an 18th century woman who had strong scholastic o literary interest. The Partial, Prejudiced, and Ignorant part is a nod to Jane Austen's book The History of England by a Partial, Prejudiced, and Ignorant Historian.

I am always recommending books or movies to those around me. Whether or not they want a recommendation. So rather than giving my 2 cents, I can give you my 3 cents. I also like to review things in 3's.

lol - thanks for the shout out.
My blog name actually came out of from my company name, which came from a line in a Dr. Seuss book ... the first I bought for my firstborn daughter.

"Green Days. Deep deep in the sea. Cool and quiet fish. That's me."

Mine came from a favorite Bible verse. "There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy dwelling places of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. ~Psalm 46:4-5~"

I actually found your blog as a reference on the blog 'A soft place to land' regarding autumn mantles.

I was interested to visit your blog as ours have very similar names! Mine is named 'Classy & Fabulous' which is part of a famous quote by Coco Chanel which I also believe every woman should be.

Each day at http://TheClassyWoman.blogspot.com I explore new areas of how women can be classy, elegant and fabulous. You had mentioned wanting to learn more on the subect, so I thought you might want to check out my blog.

I also have a book that I am in the process writing that will be available for sale before Christmas on this subject as well.
